Crochet pizza slice pattern — seven pieces, 28 rounds written out

A free crochet pizza slice pattern, about 11.5 cm along the crust and about 10 cm from crust to tip, worked on a 4.0 mm hook in five colours, around two and a half hours. The crust is not a roll sewn on afterwards: round 7 of the cheese side lays fourteen stitches of tomato red along the wide edge, and rounds 8 and 9 carry sixteen and then eighteen stitches of tan straight over the top of it. All 28 rounds are written out across the seven pieces, with the number it leaves you on printed beside it.

Maths verified, not yet made. Every one of the 28 rounds was checked against the round before it by machine — the counts, the increases and the decreases all add up. What nobody can promise you yet is how it sits in the hand. How we check

Why it is rated Medium

Medium for one reason: the six increases in every round of both triangles have to land two at each of three corners, and spreading them evenly gives a circle instead of a wedge.

Tension
Tight enough that the stuffing does not show between stitches. Gauge is not critical here — a looser hand gives a larger slice.
Finished size
~11.5 cm along the crust, ~10 cm from crust to tip
Any smooth worsted works on these counts. A 3.5 mm hook makes a smaller, denser slice, which matters at the joining round — a loose fabric lets the two edges shift while you work through both.

Nine notes on the pizza slice

Read them
01An original Crochet Genie design.
02Every piece is smooth single crochet worked in a continuous spiral. The fabric comes out flat and even, with no ribbing, no openwork and no gaps anywhere in this pattern.
03The wedge shape comes from where the increases sit, not from how many there are. Each round of both triangles adds six stitches, worked as two increases at each of three corners with plain single crochet along the sides between them. Spread the same six evenly and you get a circle instead of a slice.
04Mark the three corners on round 2 and carry the markers up as you go. Everything else on this pattern lines up against them.
05The crust is a colour change along one side only, not a separate roll sewn on afterwards. Rounds 8 and 9 of the cheese top carry tan across the crust side, and round 7 carries a single line of tomato red just inside it.
06The three pepperoni are one small disc worked three times. Its last round has no increases, so the edge draws in a little and each disc sits proud of the cheese.
07The joining round is worked through both triangles at once, holding them wrong sides out, one single crochet into each pair of edge stitches. Stuff lightly through the opening before the last few stitches close it.
08The basil leaf is a small pointed oval — put the increases and decreases at the two ends and work the sides plain, the same trick that shapes the triangles.
09Sew the pepperoni and the leaf flat to the cheese side once the slice is joined and stuffed.

Four questions this pattern answers

Not questions anybody asked. Each one is written from this pattern's own record, and every answer is read off the fields it names.

How is the colour worked into the pizza slice?

Inside the round, not at the start of it: four of the 28 rounds carry a colour run, across two of its seven pieces. Each of those rounds gives the run in stitches: round 1 of joining the two sides is eighteen crust tan, then 36 cheese yellow.

How much yarn will the pizza slice take?

Five colours, all weight 4, and the pattern asks for cheese yellow: ~20 g; crust tan: ~25 g; tomato red: scraps; pepperoni red: scraps; basil green: scraps.

What hook will the pizza slice need, and what is the finished size?

A 4.0 mm hook, US G/6. Finished, it comes out ~11.5 cm along the crust, ~10 cm from crust to tip; the leading tilde is there because that came off the stitch counts rather than a tape measure.

How long will the pizza slice take to crochet?

About two and a half hours. That is 28 rounds on the page, from five written lists that make seven pieces, coming to 492 single crochet and 122 increases once every piece is worked, and the hours are an estimate rather than a timing of anybody making it.
