Bunny crochet pattern: 27 rounds, four pieces, no sewing

A free bunny crochet pattern for a palm-sized rabbit about 8 cm tall to the ear tips and 5 cm across, worked in four colours on a 4.0 mm hook in about an hour and a half. Nothing is sewn together: the ears begin in eight free front loops on body round 5 and the tail in six free front loops on round 9, and picking up through the front loop leaves both counts untouched, so round 5 is still a plain 24. Twenty-seven rounds cover all four pieces, each with the count it ends on.

Maths verified, not yet made. Every one of the 27 rounds was checked against the round before it by machine — the counts, the increases and the decreases all add up. What nobody can promise you yet is how it sits in the hand. How we check

Why it is rated Easy

Four pieces and twenty-seven rounds of plain single crochet. The one awkward move is picking up eight front loops on round 5 in the right place, and the count does not change while you do it.

Gauge and finished size

the last check before you cast on
Tension
Worked tight enough that the stuffing does not show between stitches. Exact gauge is not critical — a looser hand gives a slightly larger bunny.
Finished size
~8 cm tall to the ear tips, and about 5 cm across the body
Any worsted on a 4.0 mm hook gives roughly this size, and a lighter yarn on a 3.0 mm hook gives a noticeably smaller one. The blush is used only on the ear tips and the nose, so scraps will do.

One ball, worked in a single spiral: out to twenty-four stitches, five straight rounds, then back in and closed.Keep the marker moving. Losing the round start on a spiral is the one thing that quietly ruins the shape.

Eight notes on the pocket bunny

Read them
01An original Crochet Genie design.
02Worked in a continuous spiral. Mark the first stitch of each round and carry the marker up as you go — there is nothing to join and nothing to turn.
03Nothing is sewn together. The ears and the tail are picked up straight off the body, so the only needle work is the face and the ends.
04The ears start in the free front loops of body round 5: eight loops for the left ear, four loops left free across the front of the face, then eight loops for the right ear. Picking up through the front loop only does not change any count — that round is still a plain 8 sc for the ear and a plain 24 sc for the body underneath.
05The tail starts the same way, in six free front loops on the back of body round 9.
06Stuff the head and body firmly through the opening before round 12 closes it. Leave the ears completely unstuffed so they flop, and put no more than a pinch in the tail before you pull round 3 tight.
07The ears are simulated. A bunny ear is usually worked flat in turned rows, which this format cannot count, so each ear here is a narrow unstuffed tube in continuous rounds — left empty it settles flat by itself and hangs the same way.
08The face is embroidered rather than set with safety eyes, which makes the bunny safe for a child under three. Two charcoal French knots or small satin patches sit between rounds 3 and 4, about six stitches apart, with a small blush pink nose stitched between and below them.

Four questions this pattern answers

Not questions anybody asked. Each one is written from this pattern's own record, and every answer is read off the fields it names.

How many pieces make up the pocket bunny?

Four pieces from three lists: the page mirrors the ears, writing that list out a second time. The page writes out 27 rounds in all, the longest piece being the head and body at 12 and the shortest the tail at 3.

How much yarn will the pocket bunny take?

Four colours, all weight 4 (worsted), and the pattern asks for oatmeal: 1 small ball (about 20 g); blush pink: scraps; cream: scraps; charcoal: scraps.

What hook will the pocket bunny need, and what is the finished size?

A 4.0 mm hook, US G/6. Finished, it comes out ~8 cm tall to the ear tips, and about 5 cm across the body; the leading tilde is there because that came off the stitch counts rather than a tape measure.

How long will the pocket bunny take to crochet?

About one and a half hours. That is 27 rounds across four pieces, coming to 244 single crochet, 24 increases and 32 decreases, and the hours are an estimate rather than a timing of anybody making it.
