Strawberry crochet pattern — two pieces, 14 rounds written out

This is a free strawberry crochet pattern. The finished berry is about 4 cm across and about 4 cm tall, worked on a 3.0 mm hook in two colours, roughly two hours of work. The berry is a symmetrical ball — three rounds out to 24 stitches, four straight rounds, three rounds back in — so the strawberry shape comes from the green calyx sewn across the top rather than from any taper in the red. All 14 rounds are written out below across the two pieces, and each one shows the stitch count it finishes on.

Maths verified, not yet made. Every one of the 14 rounds was checked against the round before it by machine — the counts, the increases and the decreases all add up. What nobody can promise you yet is how it sits in the hand. How we check

  • 4 render matches the pattern — no image has been compared against its own prompt, so a render showing a piece the rounds do not make would not be caught here. Nothing has counted how many do.
  • 6a recognisability — provenance.recognisability is empty in every pattern, so there is no feature list to check the parts against.
Why it is rated Easy

Easy: the berry is the standard sphere — increase to 24, four straight rounds, decrease back — and the calyx is three rounds of flat disc with no shaping to judge.

Gauge and finished size

the last check before you cast on
Tension
Tight enough that the stuffing does not show between the stitches. Exact gauge is not critical — a looser hand gives a larger berry, and the calyx grows with it.
Finished size
~4 cm across, ~4 cm tall
In 4-ply cotton on a 2.5 mm hook the same counts give a smaller berry, and the calyx shrinks with it, so the proportion between the two holds.

A needle pushed through a stuffed berry catches the filling and drags it up to the surface.

Three notes on the strawberry

Four questions this pattern answers

Not questions anybody asked. Each one is written from this pattern's own record, and every answer is read off the fields it names.

How many pieces make up the strawberry?

Two separate pieces, one written list each. The page writes out 14 rounds in all, the longest piece being the berry at 11 and the shortest the calyx at 3.

How much yarn will the strawberry take?

Two colours, all weight 3 (light worsted), and the pattern asks for red: scraps; green: scraps.

What hook will the strawberry need, and what is the finished size?

A 3.0 mm (D) hook, US D/3. Finished, it comes out ~4 cm across, ~4 cm tall; the leading tilde is there because that came off the stitch counts rather than a tape measure.

How long will the strawberry take to crochet?

About two hours. That is 14 rounds across two pieces, coming to 150 single crochet, 30 increases and 18 decreases, and the hours are an estimate rather than a timing of anybody making it.
