Wrist warmers crochet pattern — two tubes, 64 rounds written out

This is a free wrist warmers crochet pattern: a pair about 20 cm around and 14 cm long, worked on a 3.5 mm hook in two colours over about four hours. Neither tube is shaped — 36 stitches on round 1 and 36 on round 32 — so the two rounds that do anything at all are 5 and 29, each worked in the back loops only at a colour change, which leaves a raised ridge where the cream meets the heather at both ends of the tube. Both warmers are written out in full, 32 rounds each, every round stating the count it ends on.

Maths verified, not yet made. Every one of the 64 rounds was checked against the round before it by machine — the counts, the increases and the decreases all add up. What nobody can promise you yet is how it sits in the hand. How we check

Why it is rated Beginner

Beginner: one count for the whole tube. Rounds 5 and 29 go into the back loops only, which is the single thing to remember and the one thing that shows if you forget.

Seven notes on the wrist warmers

Read them
01An original Crochet Genie design.
02Each warmer is a plain tube worked in a spiral: 36 stitches around, 32 rounds up, no increases and no decreases anywhere.
03Start each warmer by chaining 36 and slip stitching into the first chain to make a ring, then work round 1 into those chains. That is why the part has no magic ring.
04Rounds 5 and 29 are worked in back loops only. That changes nothing about the counting — both are still 36 sc in and 36 sc out — but it leaves a soft ridge where each cream band meets the heather.
05There is no thumb opening. The tube slides over the hand and sits on the forearm, and the fingers and thumb stay free above it.
06Both warmers are identical, so the app shows one set of rounds and you work it twice.
07The fabric is smooth single crochet all the way, not ribbed. If you would like a snugger fit, drop to a 3.0 mm hook rather than changing the stitch count.

Four questions this pattern answers

Not questions anybody asked. Each one is written from this pattern's own record, and every answer is read off the fields it names.

How many pieces make up the wrist warmers?

Two pieces from a single list: the page mirrors the warmer, writing that list out a second time. The page writes out 64 rounds in all, the longest piece being the warmer at 32.

How much yarn will the wrist warmers take?

Two colours, all weight 3 (light worsted), and the pattern asks for heather: 1 x 100 g ball (about 70 g for the pair); cream: about 25 g for the pair.

What hook will the wrist warmers need, and what is the finished size?

A 3.5 mm hook, US E/4. Finished, it comes out ~20 cm around and ~14 cm long — fits an average adult hand and forearm; the leading tilde is there because that came off the stitch counts rather than a tape measure.

How long will the wrist warmers take to crochet?

About four hours. That is 64 rounds across two pieces, coming to 2,304 single crochet, and the hours are an estimate rather than a timing of anybody making it.
